The
Scottsdale Strummers was formed in November of 2006. We slowly added
to the group until we now number over a dozen. Our
intent is to promote the ukulele in Arizona. We will do this by
performing wherever we can, and hosting workshops and gatherings for
ukulele players and interested people.
I have come to the
conclusion that the best way to keep a group together is to have
goals. Ours are shows, and we are always preparing for a show. In
addition to small ones, like senior center cafeterias, local coffee
houses and things of that nature we participate in 3 folk festivals
every year. Our
attendance is low during the summer because Phoenix and Scottsdale
is not a good place to be if you can help it. We are planning big
things for the fall, and expect to have about 25 members by the end
of the year. One
thing that will be added in the fall is a night meeting. Our meeting
now are only from 10 am to noon on Fridays.
